Mr. Akeem Abiodun Apatira an accountant, administrator, environmentalist, politician and human rights activists; he is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Drain Ducks, an agency responsible for flood management to create clean environment in Lagos State.
Apart from his elementary education which he had in Nigeria, Mr. Apatira also had an Accounting Program Certificate from the College of Son Mateo, B.Sc in Business Administration at the Canterbury University Cheshire and his MBA from the same University. Furthermore, is also an Alumnus of Stanford University, USA, where he participated in an Executive programme in Social Entrepreneurship and a Master Degree from Metropolitan School of Business & Management, in the United Kingdom.
While in America in his quest for Academic excellence, Akeem was at
San-Mateo College, where he obtained Certificate in Accounting and
Certified Microsoft professional in 1998. He also worked with various
organizations such as; Federal Reserve of San Francisco, Bank of America and Informix Software Company in Son Mateo as Accounts Manager before returning to Nigeria.
A core professional Accountant, Alhaji Akeem Abiodun Apatira is a
member of Chartered Institute of Bankers, Associate member Certified Institute of Cost Management, Fellow of Institute of Corporate Treasurers and Accountants, Fellow of Institute of Company and Commercial Accountants, Fellow of Nigerian Institute of Strategic Management and Fellow, Institute Chartered Management of Accountant.
Awards to his credit include: The Merit Award Winner of Great Islander for positive contribution for the development of Lagos Island (1992), Deans’ List Honour Students (1998), Flight to success Award for Outstanding Academic, Achievement (2002) among others.
Being a result-driven and resourceful Lagosian, Mr. Akeem Abiodun
Apalira’s passion for green agenda and impeccable environment is not deniable, as an Environmentalist and a veteran politician; he was
appointed the Chief Operating Officer of Drain Ducks, an agency responsible for flood management with a view to creating a floodless and
renewed Lagos State.He is a goal getter.
As the Chief Operating Officer of Drain Ducks, he has about a thousand
worker under his management over the year, his wealth of experience,
exposure and level of education has assisted the government in
curtailing the menace of flooding to the barest minimum, forestalling its
destructive tendencies and also assisting the government for effective drainage maintenance and flood control.
As a politician and human rights activists; he is an executive member of
the popular Democratic Alliance, Director of Human Right and Refugee
Project in America, he was equally one of the few that coordinated in
Logos the return of democratic governance in Nigeria and stopping of
human right abuse by the military government. In the political terrain, his
experience and active participation spanned 2nd and 3rd republic. He was
thee Coordinator of NADECO Programmes for the actualization of
June 12, 1993 elections in Lagos West, this led to his detention by the
Military administration of late General Sanni Abacha.
He has always been in the fore front campaign of a renewed Lagos. As a true and progressive democrat, he has been a part of formidable platform for the continuity of the advancement of good
governance, which was demonstrated in the recently concluded
elections. As the Director General of Eko Volunteer Campaign Group
(EVCG) his contributions speaks volume in the overall electioneering
victories of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Born into the family of late Alhaji Abdul Fatai Adio Apatira and late Alhaja Sidikal Ayoka Apatira (Nee Gbadamosi) of Odunsi-Eshinlokun Royal Family of Lagos. Both parents were devoted Muslims, well read in Islamic education and disciplinarians. They were also prominent opinion leaders in Lagos Slate
Alhaji Akeem Abiodun Apatira started his primary education at Ereko
Methodist School, Berkley, Lagos and was simultaneously pursuing Islamic
and Arabic education under the watchful eyes of Sheik M.O. Oyekan and
late Alhaji B. Majekodunmi. He was later admitted into the foremost Ansar Ud-Deen High School, Surulere, where he completed his Secondary
education and obtained his Secondary School Certificate
His work experience started in 1979 at the First Bank of Nigeria where
he was employed as a Customer Relations Officer. Alhaji Akeern Apatira’s
quest and love for further education was kindled at the First Bonk but his
love for Banking and Accounting profession was more pronounced which
led to his acquiring a Certificate in Banking from the Institute of Bankers.
A sport Enthusiast, Philanthropist and Humanitarian, who enjoys playing
soccer and table tennis for relaxation, is a core family man, happily
married and blessed with lovely children.
